My dad would have been 82 this year. He didn’t quite make it that far. 54. I’m a little younger than he was. It is weird, I don’t feel old. Or at least to old. I thought my dad was so old when he was 54. I was 19. I was an idiot.
Some ideas
I have my own ideas about how government should operate. I’m sure lots of people would not like my ideas. That’s ok. I can live with that.
No more voting for federal positions.
So, selecting the president.
The President should be chosen by selecting a name randomly out of a bowl that contains the names of all the governors. The state that was last chosen can not be selected again until every other state has had its turn. So no one would serve more than one term. Every four years there would be a completely new president. After every state has had the opportunity to have its governor become president, the whole process will start over.
The Vice President’s are selected by the president out of the governors. Unless there is a death the Vice President would not become the next president.
House and senate
Each state should have a drawing based on the state representatives. Two people are chosen at random to work in the senate. Six year terms are still good.
Representatives
The mayors and city council people for district have all there names placed into a bowl and one name is chosen at random. Then, instead of two year terms the term is for three years.
Now, all the people selected wanted to work in some sort of politics anyway. It’s just by chance that they were selected to work at the federal level.
So maybe federal politics won’t be such a “fancy” idea.
Each state is responsible for paying its own senators or representatives. The President and Vice President can be paid by the federal government. They would get the same as Supreme Court justices.
The federal government is to important to be left to people that want to work only at that level.
At the present time I do not see a happy middle ground being found. The cynic in me says we need to divide into tribes so to speak. Democrat areas and Republican areas. You can move freely anywhere but any given area may be a Republican or a Democrat area. In a small way the current system of Gerrymandering already does this. I say we make it more pronounced. Have one president for the Democrats and a second President for the Republicans. Every state would have 4 senators, 2 for republicans, 2 for democrats. Each congressional district would be designated a Republican or a Democrat district. Then only one party can vote in that district. You can still live anywhere you want but Republicans can only vote in Republican districts. Democrats can only vote in Democrat districts. If a person wants to vote they have to live in the district of the party they belong to. I have lots of fun ideas.
We live in such a stupid world right now. There are lots of things I don’t like but I still will fight for a person’s right to do them. Some things I think are as wrong as the day is long. But that doesn’t mean it should be made illegal. It can be a very fine line that is walked.
Are electric cars better? Doubtful.
Is the air quality better from electric cars? Questionable.
All electric cars do is separate a person from the pollution that is made.
You personally aren’t doing the polluting. Someone still is polluting and you are benefiting from what someone does. How is oil produced? How are batteries for electric cars produced? Not to mention everything that is in most cars.
I find electric cars and solar panels fascinating, but they are little more than virtue signaling at this point in time. After every house has solar and electric car batteries don’t require strip mining, then it might be worth it.
Honestly, the best thing in many ways would be nuclear.
It lasts for years and it is only a problem if there is an major accident. It’s not like there is a nuclear accident every week, month or year.
All I can say is🙄
