16 July 2026…..damn rain

I am not a fan of Ted Turner for many reasons, I think CNN, the news station he created, is nothing but a  propaganda machine, but I love one thing he did. He bought a ranch and got rid of all the cows, all the fences, and let buffalo (bison) roam free and help transform the land. He let the ranch do its own thing for a few years and eventually wolves settled in the area by themselves, and Mr. Turner said to leave the wolves alone. Finally he set up legal structures to insure that the land could never be used for anything but a land for bison. If I could, I would love to go hunting there.

My telling of the story is very simplistic. I watched several videos on YouTube about bison. In Texas, Utah, Montana, Catalina Island. There have been lots of things done with bison over the past century.

But going back to Mr. Turner, I love what he did for his ranch, but it got me thinking. How was he able to do what he did, I would love to create a preserve than could reintroduce native species, back into the environment.

Money.

Money is not the root of all evil. Money is a gift from God.

Money allows all humans to help other humans, the earth, or animals.

That could be, and probably is, practically impossible for me now days. If I had started thirty years ago. Maybe. Now, almost impossible. But to do what Mr. Turner did you need to have lots of money.

I remember I cursed myself about 30 years ago. I was sick when I was on my mission in Brazil. I had run out of the local money, so I wanted to sell some dollars so I could get some medicine and juice. So I got the few dollars I had and went to try and sell them. If I had $20, I had a lot. I probably only had $10. But me and my companion at the time had to go to several different places. One place ask how much I wanted to sell. I said $10 or something. The one man said no. I was pretty upset because I felt awful. But that got the idea stuck in my head, “money sucks.”

I eventually came back home, but I never really understood the concept of money. I still hated money and didn’t understand it, even though I didn’t have much. I understand it better now, but I’m sure not as well as others.

Money is not my favorite thing to think about. I have learned to manage it better over the years but in many ways it’s a constant confusion for me.

Since I had my stroke everything is more expensive. Don’t recommend having a stroke.

So my mind was wandering around thinking of all the things I would like to do, have done in the past and stuff I do now, and most require money. Most people want money but not everyone is willing to do what needs to be done for money. That said some luck might be involved.

I remember I was in my twenties and talking with my cousin about what I wanted to do. He suggested I go into business of some kind. At the time I hated that idea partly because I didn’t have a good idea about what business is and does. At the time I thought everything business was boring. Business is the life blood of society. I would recommend to anyone going to college, major in whatever you want. But minor in business or marketing.

Every aspect of society requires business in some form.

High School clubs.

Dances.

Cars.

Gas.

Health care.

Construction.

Yard work.

Pest control.

YouTube.

Groceries.

Cleaning.

Amazon.

Veterinarian.

Missionary Work.

Restaurants.

Fundraising.

Science.

Sports.

Everyone gets paid in money. If you don’t get paid in money, hmmm.

If money is involved, business is involved.

Money is a gift from God. He allows each person to demonstrate how he/she will help other people and the planet with what we my have or my not have.

It makes me think of the widows mite. Jesus Christ said the widows mite was important because she was giving the little she had, and it was a larger percentage of her entire donation compared to her income. But he didn’t not say that other peoples offerings were not important.

If I want to help build a temple and would say I need the people that have a talent of gold (75-78 pounds) almost 4.5 million dollars. Not everyone can help with such a great amount, not everyone has that much money, but hopefully everyone can contribute the mite. One mite is said to be about 1/8 cent or maybe more, maybe a dollar depending on the mite. If I am trying to to help build a church, temple, or anything. The mites are important but if there is one donor that can share a talent of gold, things can get done faster.

I would love to be someone that has money that can help fund all kinds of wonderful projects. I would love to create a ranch for bison and occasionally bison hunting. But I need to learn to be content with what I have. I still have more than many people.
