I noticed this morning that it has been 1 year since the death of Charlie Kirk, when he was assassinated at Utah Valley University.
One thing that I really liked about him, I did not agree with every single thing he said, but he did have a very keen ability to break down, logically, almost every argument. And the biggest thing that he did was use his First Amendment right of free speech to offer other people that opposed his viewpoint the opportunity to use their First Amendment right of free speech, and they could debate/discuss for a few moments.
Now, First Amendment is more than just free speech; it's also freedom of religion, and he had his own religious viewpoints. But most of his viewpoints that were, as you might want to say, "political," were also religious. You don't have to agree with everything that he said, but the simple fact is he had the right to say it. And you have the right to say something that other people don't like.
As soon as it leaves the area of free speech and goes into physical violence or force, or heaven forbid, using some kind of weapon to try to force or silence a person—that is not really okay.
I am glad we have the Second Amendment, and I think it should be allowed constitutional carry everywhere.
But back to my point: Charlie Kirk, he was a person who wanted people to have the opportunity to speak.
If you agree with the opportunity to speak and have your own point of view, you do agree with Charlie Kirk. Maybe not on everything, but on the most important thing, which is free speech and the right to think as you want to think.
The next thing that I have been thinking about is: why do I like President Trump?
He is not a perfect person, and I don't agree with everything that he tries to introduce. The simple fact, he gets things done, or he tries to get things done, that he wants to get done.
I'll just give an example.
He declared that the capital of Israel should be Jerusalem and moved the US embassy there.
There had been presidents all the way back to Bush who said they would do that, but none of them did it until President Trump. Now, you don't have to like the fact that he did it, but the simple fact that he did it is a much more pleasing aspect to me. He says he is going to do something, and the simple fact is he does it, or he tries to do it. The courts might say, "Oh, that's not allowed to do that." And sometimes it goes all the way up to the Supreme Court, and they say "Oh, you're not allowed to do that." And that is that.
One thing I was very interested in was that they were talking to Robert F. Kennedy Jr., and he said that despite the fact that he was suing Donald Trump, Donald Trump still offered to help his family with something.
The simple fact that they both work in a very litigious professions, one thing that is very easy to understand in many ways is that Donald Trump, if he gets sued, he doesn't care. It's just the way things work. If there are personal issues with the why he is getting sued, maybe that's different.
He does not worry too much about being sued because, in lots of ways, that's just how it works.
And so I will say I think that Donald Trump gets things done. I don't have to like everything, but I do like certain things. I will admit I like the fact that he is enforcing immigration. There are lots of people that are choosing to self-deport so they don't get arrested and deported. I think that's great.
I also thought it was funny that there's one conservative commentator, Milo Yiannopoulos, who was deported. He had let his visa lapse, and so he was here illegally. It was kind of funny that such a public figure would get deported like that, but his visa had lapsed. And if you do not have a visa, or if your visa has lapsed, you no longer have the right to be here in the US.
And honestly, if you want the illegal aliens to stay in the US, I would dare say you should use your First Amendment right and talk to the people in charge and say you want a certain number of illegal aliens at your house, or you will sponsor them and be responsible for everything that they do. If the government accepts your offer—then the people can maybe live in your house or under your supervision. But if they do something—if the illegal aliens do something wrong—you will be held responsible also. The Government could take your money or put you in jail or something.
But that's just my idea.
Do I like everything that President Trump does? No.
Like any politician, I think there are lots of questionable things that most politicians do. And I do not think that any politician can keep himself clean.
If a person is going to wrestle with pigs, they're going to get muddy.
One of the interesting things I saw or understood was that when Mitt Romney was senator for Utah, some people thought he was pretty awesome. I will admit I, in many ways, at one time thought he was pretty great—but the moment he started calling people treasonous I lost respect for his ability to think and govern. I don't know why he decided to call someone a traitor. But I will admit, I'm glad he was never my senator, since I live in Texas and he was a senator for Utah.
